Updates

Our fundraising effort  for Damian's new bike is becoming well known throughout the equestrian community.  Thankyou to all our supporters.

As raffle tickets are sold and donations received, we put the money into Damian's Bank of New Zealand bank accounts.

As at 8th May 2008 - we have raised $8,412 for Damian

Awesome Service from the BNZ, Work and Income - and Pedal Pushers!

Since this raffle was first organised we have been overwhelmed with the response - thankyou to everybody who has bought a ticket, offered to sell tickets at shows or otherwise, or donated a prize for the raffle.  Damian cannot quite believe the level of support, and we thank you.  Today we opened a bank account for Damian at the Bank of New Zealand on the Square in Palmerston North - where the lovely Beverley Singh helped Damian open an account so that he could put the $830 already raised through this appeal into his new accounts - we appreciated her advice as to the type of accounts suitable - now Damian pays the lowest fees possible.

The next stop was Work and Income in Palmerston North and with the help of an awesome guy called Chase - we transferred Damian's case from Tauranga to Palmerston North.  We expected to make an appointment to make an appointment... however we were seen immediately and Chase not only assisted with the forms but loaded them onto the computer immediately, so that Damian can receive his accommodation supplement as well as his Invalid's Benefit in his next benefit payment.

Then we went into Pedal Pushers on the corner of Ferguson and Oxford Streets, Palmerston North to see about getting Damian a bike he could afford so that he has transport (and physical therapy) until the folding bike arrives.  We were sent there by Bruce Smith(a well known show-jump judge and announcer in the lower North Island - what would shows be like without our Brucie?)  to go and see the owner, Gary.  Gary had heard about Damian's plight and wanted to help.  He advised Damian as to the best bike for his needs - plus a helmet, bike pump, bike tools and clip-on pedals - and discounted the $1200 cost to just over $800 - we were gob-smacked.  That's nearly 80 tickets tickets we don't need to sell - wow!  And all he wanted was a thankyou - no publicity photos, no promise of endorsement... just a thankyou - it restored my faith in human kindness.  Pedal Pushers really are "Ultimate Bike Shop" and if you're in the market for a bike or bike accessories - or just want to say "thank you", please drop in or send them an email
