Background
Maren Domke was born in Hamburg, Germany, and started riding at the age of eight. As a youngster Maren could not afford her own horse, so rode for other owners in dressage, jumping and eventing. She trained with Hans Melzer, a german national coach for eventing, head trainer and manager of the Luhmuehlen Equestrian Centre where the European Championships '99 for eventing took place. She was educated in the German system of classical riding and passed her German National Dressage Federation instructor's exam at the age of 18. Maren went on to train riders and young horses. In New Zealand Maren was head trainer at the Rangeview Equestrian Centre in South Canterbury where the Trakhener stallion Falkensee stood. Maren returned to Germany, and trained for Klaus-Martin Rath, a German national pro dressage rider champion. He then recommended Ms Domke to Dr Uwe Schulten-Baumer, who trains Isabel Werth. For 18 months she worked for Dr Schulten-Baumer and had the opportunity to work with his outstanding horses.
Maren has lived in New Zealand since 1999 and is a New Zealand resident, Maren is currently completing a BSc at Massey University - majoring in Equine Science major and was the 2007 Massey University Equine Student of the year.
Trimming Philosophy
To trim the horse and not just the foot, which means to take into consideration age, posture and related musculoskeletal problems, nutrition, and use of the horse. To trim so that the horse has the best chance to (re-)grow a healthy and functional hoof that allows the full range of movement. For me one of the greatest joys is seeing a horse becoming full of life again because it is pain free and has full use of its hooves again. Ah, and to be patient, because nothing good happens overnight!!
